Running the Good Race 2010

This is the second week of this new journey towards Running the Good Race. This is a very unique small group that combines the passion of running with the word of God. I started the group on March 13 with the number 3, yesterday we were 5 and I am sure God will continue to add more members next week.

We open our reunion in prayers asking God to be with us during our time together,  the sun was peaking through the trees and the squirrels were witness to the passion and expectation every member had to go out running. The weather was great and we began our run at 8:15am towards the Coconut Grove Marina. The run was really nice as we felt the fresh morning wind blow in our faces while we were waking up by the beautiful presence of the singing birds. Served breakfast to all and because man not only lives by bread, I also gave them the word. This is the verse we used for discussion:

2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. (James 1:2-8, NIV)

We read verse by verse and shared our thoughts. We reflected on the word and we encouraged one another. While we were at the pier, I encouraged all to observe the calm water and later I used that as an illustration of what happens when we doubt and how we become like that wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. In general we got the idea why we should develop perseverance and pursuit God's wisdom. Like in running, there is no advancing if we quit running every time we try so it is true for our faith, we cannot grow and strengthen our faith if we do not persevere through trials.

Have a blessed week and I pray that you will join us Running the Good Race 2010 next Saturday!
